Giving Back

Empowering Local Communities and Non-Profits via NorthstarIT.ca

Small businesses and non-profits deserve the same quality of digital work as the companies that can afford it. Every year we donate a chunk of our capacity to community organizations across BC, Alberta, and Yukon. Real websites, real branding, real support.

Community Focused

Giving back, both ways.

Giving back doesn't only mean non-profits. It means helping a new business in town get their first website live. It means a community hall finally getting hosting that doesn't break. It means showing up for the people building something good, whether they have a budget or not.

Why we do this.

North Star IT was built on a simple idea. Great technology shouldn't only belong to enterprises with deep budgets. It should also belong to the people running food banks, search and rescue teams, youth programs, and community halls.

So every year we set aside a portion of our schedule for pro-bono work. Full website builds, hosting, brand identity, ongoing technical support. No invoice. The mission has to fit, and the rest is on us.

Full builds, not favours.

The non-profits we work with get the same process, design quality, and technology stack as our paying clients. Nothing gets cut to save time.

Long-term support.

We don't disappear after launch. Hosting, security updates, and small content changes stay included for as long as the organization needs them.

Local first.

Priority goes to organizations serving communities in BC, Alberta, and Yukon. These are the places we live and work, and the places NRTHSTR-V1 actually drives.

Frequently asked questions

What types of community projects does Northstar IT support?

Our focus remains on community growth within British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon. We prioritise initiatives that align with our core values, such as digital literacy for youth, supporting local charities with tech setup, and environmental conservation projects. By concentrating on our local service areas like Prince George and Grande Prairie, we ensure that our volunteer efforts have a meaningful and direct impact on the neighbours we serve every day through NorthstarIT.ca.

Can local non-profits request technical assistance?

Absolutely. Northstar IT provides various forms of support for registered non-profit organisations. This includes technical advisory sessions to help charities organise their digital workflows, advice on cybersecurity for sensitive donor data, and guidance on migrating to cloud environments like Microsoft 365. We aim to empower these organisations with the same level of expertise we provide to our commercial clients, helping them achieve their missions more effectively while staying secure in an increasingly digital world.

Do Northstar IT employees get time off for volunteering?

Yes, we promote a culture of giving back by offering our team members structured opportunities to participate in community events. Whether it is a local food bank drive in Kelowna or a mentorship programme in Whitehorse, our staff are encouraged to share their skills. We believe that professional development and community service go hand in hand, fostering a well rounded team that understands the unique needs of our diverse Western Canadian clientele and the value of strong local partnerships.
